How do you represent three-dimensional space on a two dimensional surface? That cartographer's problem is explored a little bit here. Its hard to appreciate at first, but more than 180 degrees of side-to-side view and ~110 degrees up-and-down are squeezed into this collage. For this collage, I made sure that each photo only lined up with the one above and below it. If I didn't then the collage would end up looking like a blunt pyramid, with the cells converging toward the middle as they reached the top (of both the dome and the collage). This technique lead to a spreading-out of the dome, which reminds me of a blooming flower.
